Weddings | to veil or not to veil

.. That is the question.

And for me, for a long time, the answer to that question was NO.

I don’t know why but I just never really liked veils and I certainly couldn’t imagine myself as a bride wearing one. They were a bit too traditional for me. I knew I wanted a flower crown and once I found my beautiful Ana Maria one (which you can read about here) I figured I was done and dusted on the head wear front.

That was until I went to try on my headpiece in Ana’s studio for the final time before I took it home, and my grandma persuaded me to just try a veil with it. Ana fastened one to the bottom of the flower crown at the back (rather than more traditionally where the veil sits close to the crown of the bride’s head) and I fell in love with it instantly.

It just made the whole look. It didn’t take away from the crown – it added to it. And wearing it at the bottom of my head gave it even more of a boho/hippy look.

One problem – I had no veil! Until my mum suggested I tried hers. The one she had worn exactly 28 years previously when she married my dad (we got married on the same day)!! I loved the idea and once I’d seen her veil I loved it even more. It was the perfect length; Ivory and with little pearls all over it. Like the pearls on my dress. Like it was meant to be! And it would be my something old. Perfect.

Looking back at pictures I’m so glad I chose the veil. As well as being extremely special to wear a peice of my mum’s wedding outfit on my special day, I love how it looks with my whole outfit and think it looks stunning it the photos. Veils arn’t for everyone, but you can’t deny that they add a certain drama and beauty to the bridal look.

What do you think? Veil or no veil?!

Loved this post. I think I am going to wear a veil. I am having a traditional wedding but I think the veil completes my dress and makes me feel like a bride. I haven’t chosen my veil yet but I am so excited to pick the perfect one. I think choosing whether to wear a veil will depend on a number of factors including the venue, style of dress and what you want. I loved reading how your mind changed from no veil to falling in love with one, it reminds me of when I was choosing a dress. You go in with a set idea and come out with something completely different x

Awh thanks I’m really glad you found this useful.. Now that I’m married I really want to help/advise other brides because I know how stressful and busy it can be. Veils are beautiful, plus there are so many other beautiful head piece options, tiaras, crowns, flowers, fascinators, nets even hats! Have fun choosing the perfect piece for you ☺️ xx
