I don’t know about you but with all the Valentine’s posts going around at the moment I have been feeling quite girly all of a sudden. With Spring around the corner, which means that we can all start feeling a bit cheerful and colourful again, I have put together some of my favourite girly beauty products, which just so happen to follow a pink theme.

Some are old favourites, some are newer, all of them are very lovely.

This delicate pink blush is from the Bare Minerals compact range and is in the shade ‘The One’. I love this colour because it looks amazing on everyone and can be worn as a very natural every day look, as well as being vamped up for a more striking look for evening time. The colour gives a really nice dewy finish with a slight highlight in it.

Next I’ve got my go-to mascara at the moment which is the Maybelline Sensational Volume Effect Mascara. This mascara is amazing as it’s huge brush gives you massive volume and really gives that false lash effect. The brush is also slightly curved to make it easier to catch every lash! I love Maybelline’s mascaras and this is my current favourite.

The iconic “perfect nude/pink” shade that made MAC famous, Angel has been a favourite of mine since I bought it for my bridal look last year. It’s honestly the most wearable everyday lipstick I’ve ever had, being the perfect mix of natural and pretty but at the same time having enough colour pigment to make your lips stand out. For an everyday, girly look Angel is perfect.

This Ted Baker body soufflé is as gorgeous as the packaging looks from the outside. When you open it up you are hit with this delicious pink cream which is the girliest, most floral, sweet smelling thing I’ve ever come across. It’s like they mixed fairies and unicorns to make it! I don’t wear it every day but for a special occasion it’s the kind of smell that I really like. The packaging is super cute too.

Once you’ve tried a Liz Earle fragrance it’s difficult to go back to anything else every again! And that is definitely the case with me. It’s fair to say I’ve been going on about this fragrance A LOT recently, featuring it on my bridal makeup and hair blog as well as my January favourites video, but what can I say?! It’s the best. No. 20 is my favourite because it’s everything I look for in a fragrance: made from natural ingredients, fresh and light, floral and girly and it reminds me of summertime, however all of Liz’s fragrances are stunning and there is definitely a smell to suit everyone.

I have been a big fan of the Molton Brown body & bath ranges, particularly the body washes, for a while now but I have recently switched from my all time favourite (Gingerlily) to try out the Pink Pepperpod range! It’s still got the exotic ginger smell but it’s much more fiery and the fragrance really fills up your whole bathroom in the morning – I love it! They do the entire range in this scent from body washes and creams to fragrance diffusers.

What are your favourite ‘girly’ products?

So, I have a bit of a confession. I’ve already admitted to being super low maintenance chick (read my post here) but it’s time to CONFESS beauty bloggers that I only own 7 lipsticks.

Whaaaaaaaaat.

I know, I know, BUT hear me out. I don’t like waste, clutter or spending money and each of these lip colours has a very specific purpose and place in life. I use all of them. And I love all of them. And honestly, I don’t need anymore

So here is what has made the cut to join my very exclusive club which is; my lipstick collection:

MY EVERYDAY NUDE

This is a lovely, neutral pinky brown which is really good for everyday/ work or a natural makeup look. I love the consistency because it’s really moisturising and has a fairly decent staying power – although does fade off a bit after a few hours.

MY HOLIDAY LIPSTICK

Ola senorita! This cute coral is perfect for holidays and looks gorge with a bit of a tan (or bronzer). As with all MAC lippys it’s good quality and lasts for ages.

MY BRIDAL LIPSTICK / 2ND CHOICE NUDE

I bought this for my bridal makeup and I’ve fallen in love with it and now alternate it as a second choice for my everyday nude. Although it is so similar in name it’s actually quite different to Angelic; much more pink and girly. I love it.

MY FEELING A BIT JAZZY LIPSTICK

As you can see, this lipstick has been well used and well worn at the bottom of my clutch bag. So well worn in fact the name has rubbed off and I don’t know the same of it! Anyway, it’s a baby pink lipstick which I usually layer up with a bit of gloss when it’s paaaarttyyyy time.

MY FEELING VERY JAZZY LIPSTICK

Only used with caution. This is very bright. I classify it as a lipstick because the colour is so strong but it comes in a sort of gloss format. You apply it and it dries matte and really, really strong. It looks fab when wanting to make a lip statement on a night out.

MY RED ONE

Everyone’s got to have a bright red lippy right?! I don’t wear it much, but I do love this one. It’s a really deep red but the best thing is that it stays put all night and doesn’t smudge at all! Perfect red lips every time.

So, as you can see, they all know their place! And I don’t need too much space in my makeup drawer for them. Generally, I don’t like to have too much choice in term of makeup colours, knowing where I stand with my special few is much more up my street. Plus, they are tried and tested and I love them all – so why deviate?!

How many lipsticks do you own?

I’m still buzzing from my amazing hen party over the weekend! You can read about what we got up to here, but I wanted to write a post about my outfit and makeup for the day, even if it’s only to remind myself in years to come how much effort I put in! The theme of the party was festival/boho which is just so me and I spent a long time searching for the perfect outfit, hairstyle and makeup so I could feel and look my best on the day.

Outfit

What could be more boho-hippie-festival that the trusty high waisted shorts/crop top/flower crown combo?! I was in love with my outfit and I felt great in it all day.  I wore this with simple flip flops as the weather was so lovely.

Crochet Fringe top: Forever 21

High waisted mint shorts: Primark

White crop top: H&M

Rose Quartz necklace: Forever 21

Flower crown: Bijoux (shop in Portugal)

Makeup

As it was such a hot day and my party mainly consisted of day time activities I did go for a natural look with a pinky/gold eye shadow and a winged black liner to give it a boho edge. I vamped it up for the evening with a brighter lipstick but this makeup look was great and lasted all day.

Primer: Bare Minerals Prime Time, Original.

Foundation: Bare Minerals Original mineral foundation, Fairly Medium.

I used a bit more than usual and just buffed it within an inch of it’s life to ensure maximum wear.

Bronzer: Bare Minerals, Warmth.

Have finally mastered contouring with this! Tiny, tiny amounts and using the right brush. It took me a while but the perfect brush I’ve found is the Superdrug mini bronzing brush.

Concealer: Bare Minerals Bareskin, Medium.

Powder: Bare Minerals, Mineral Veil.

Highlight/Blush: Laura Mercier compact, Golden Pink.

This is a creamy highlight which I don’t usually use with a mineral foundation but I applied it lightly with a brush on the cheekbones and it looked pretty.

Eyes:

Laura Mercier eye basic, Flax.

MAC, A Natural Flirt.

MAC, Corduroy.

Laura Mercier, Coffee Ground.

Loreal liquid liner

Lancôme Hypnose Mascara

Lipstick: MAC, Angel.

Hair

I wanted to get the 70’s crimped look for my hair so I plaited it damp the night before and I ended up with the crazy, hippy hair I wanted! Simple!

I completed my boho look with a few Bohemian Jewellery Tattoos; stunningly detailed gold and silver temporary tattoos which we found at a wedding fair believe it or not! I bought several packets so I could do them with my girls on the day and they went down very well! They look amazing for parties click here to visit their website.

I am DIYing my wedding makeup! Shock, horror! No, it’s sensible for two reasons. 1) (The most obvious reason) I’m getting hitched in Greece! Even if I hired a Greek makeup artist there would be not chance for a trial or see any of their work beforehand. 2) I hardly wear any makeup and I am soooo fussy about how it has to look.

So there you go, I’m doing it myself.

I did, however, admit to myself that I needed to spend some decent money on some decent products. So I set myself a £250 budget and have spent the last few months trotting around various makeup counters in John Lewis trying different things. Here’s what I have ended up with:

FACE

  • Bare Minerals Prime Time primer in Original
  • Bare Minerals Original mineral foundation in Fairly Medium
  • Bare Minerals Warmth bronzer
  • Bare Minerals Bareskin under eye concealer in Medium
  • Bare Minerals Mineral Veil setting powder
  • Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage face concealer
  • Bare Minerals compact blusher in The One

EYES

  • Laura Mercier Eye Basic in Flax
  • MAC Eye Shadow Dazzlelight
  • MAC Eye Shadow A Natural Flirt
  • MAC Eye Shadow Corduroy
  • Laura Mercier Eye Shadow Coffee Ground
  • Laura Mercier Crème Eyeliner in Espresso
  • Lancôme Hypnose Mascara  (waterproof!)

LIPS

  • MAC Lipstick Angel
  • Laura Mercier Lipstick Angelic

Coincidence that they are so similarly named! I can’t decide at the moment I love them both.

So, this is the look I’ve ended up with. I’ve practised the full look a few times and I’m really happy with it. The eye shadows blend well and give a nice pinky/brown which isn’t too pink and I love the Hypnose mascara.  I’m also loving the Bare Minerals base at the moment and I think its absolutely perfect for natural, barely there bridal makeup, and I think it will be perfect for a destination wedding too!  You can see my review of the Bare Minerals products here.

Overall I’m really pleased with the look and I think it will look lovely on the day 🙂

Any other brides doing their own makeup?

I don’t wear foundation. I never have, I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve never spent enough money on one before or whether I’ve just not found the right one before but I just don’t like them. I don’t like the way it feels on my skin and I definitely go for the more natural look anyway so, until this point, I have never really felt the need to find the perfect foundation. However, my wedding is approaching. I was receiving gasps from friends when I told them I was doing my own makeup. ‘But what about the pictures?!’ they cried! Enough. I decided to hit the shops and find a foundation that I actually like so I can feel my best on the day without feeling ‘caked’ as I call it.

I booked in for a few makeup ‘lessons’ or makeovers at various counters. I wanted to go reasonably high end as even I know that with foundation usually you get what you pay for. As I wanted to go for the uber natural and look like I’m not wearing anything at all look I booked in with Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown as I had heard good things about their makeup. Neither were exactly what I wanted. I’m not sure which foundation I tried at Bobbi Brown but it was a liquid and felt a bit thick for me and it seemed to come up a bit pale, although that may have been a dodgy colour match. The Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer was nice, but it was still a sort of liquid which was going on my face and I don’t know why but I just don’t think the feeling of it sinking into my skin! Weirdo.

As I was leaving I walked past the Bare Minerals counter and became intrigued. I’ve never used mineral makeup before but have heard whispers about how good it is for your skin and you can sleep in it etc (not that I ever would, my makeup comes off as soon as I’m in for the night! Lucky Paul.)

I decided to give it a go. I came back another day and had a makeup lesson with Bare Minerals… and I love it! It’s amazing and absolutely perfect for me. I ended up buying the Original mineral foundation, the mineral Warmth (their version of a buildable bronzer) and Mineral Veil (their setting powder). The only way I can think to describe the effect it gives is it just kind of makes my face look soft focus. It evens everything out, hides and redness or imperfections but you literally cannot see it. Even under a magnifying glass. No caking, no cracking, no worries. I also love the Warmth, it’s very dark so you only need the teensiest bit but it’s perfect to buff all over and it really looks like a believable sun kissed glow. If you’re a precision contouring kind of girl it’s possibly not the one for you, but if you’re like me and contouring makes you look like an alien.. It’s perfect! The Mineral Veil finishes it off with a nice matte look and sets it all. I’m addicted. I was supposed to be saving them for the wedding but now I wear them every day. Oops!

Have you tried Bare Minerals?
