Summer is here! Hurrah!

The weather here in London is glorious at the moment an I’m absolutely loving it. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m much more of a ‘summer fashion’ gal than an autumn/winter person, and I like nothing better than a pretty, summery dress. A few weeks ago I was passing the window of my absolute favourite shop in the world Oliver Bonas (literally, I could style my entire life from this store, there is not a thing in there I don’t like!) and I saw the most perfect dress I had ever seen in my life! I had a couple of events coming up; birthday parties, garden parties and that sort of thing, and I was looking for something colourful with just the right balance between smart/casual while at the same time being pretty. This dress is perfect in every way for every occasion.

I really like the top part of it which is soft cotton and a casual, grey T-Shirt style which makes the dress really comfortable and keeps the top half relatively casual. It’s also been really cool as last week I wore it to an event in temperatures approaching 30 degrees and was perfectly comfortable. The understated design also means you can style the dress with some chunky statement jewellery. I didn’t on this occasion but when I wore the dress to a birthday party I wore a statement, brightly-coloured necklace to brighten up the top.

The skirt was what drew my attention to the dress in the first place and it’s my favourite part. Not only is it made up of all my favourite pastel coloured but it is also made from the most gorgeous, high quality floaty fabric which is so cool and comfortable and just falls in the most pretty and flattering way. I honestly feel fabulous in it! It’s also a great length for me; just below the knee which kind of gives it a more formal feel but still helps me feel a bit taller especially when I paired it with my cork wedges. The way it is pleated is also a beautiful design which is so flattering and makes me feel slimmer and taller.

The dress costs £75 which is more than I usually spend on one piece but so far this season I have already worn it on three occasions and I feel like it is perfect because it can be dressed up or down for any event! I would wear this outfit to a wedding, a meal or even a night out! It’s definitely got the perfect blend of style and pure comfort. Currently it’s my favourite item in my wardrobe.

A few weeks ago now I received the lovely November  gin box from Gin Explorer (read my review here), containing several rather delicious miniature bottles of gin. I was challenged to create my own ‘Christmas Cocktail’ with one of the gins – a challenge, I must admit, I was only too happy to take.

After a bit of experimentation in the kitchen using my shiny new cocktail shaker (an engagement gift) I have come up with the perfect festive drink. I call it: Gin-ger festive fizz. I must confess Paul came up with that name and I think it’s rather clever, what with the main ingredients being gin and ginger ale!

Gin-ger Gin Fizz

What you’ll need (for one drink):

  • Double measure of Herno’s gin (or gin of your choice)
  • Ginger ale
  • An orange
  • A handful of cranberries
  • A dash of orange juice
  • Ice

I prepared this drink in a stainless steel cocktail shaker because I am a professional cocktail drinker coinesseur  and because it’s great for getting a good mix of flavours, but it’s by no means essential. The drink could just be thoroughly muddled in a glass instead.

  1. Middle fresh cranberries, a few ribbons of orange and a teaspoon of sugar in the cocktail shaker.

2.  Add a 1 cup of ice, 1 tbsp of orange juice and a double measure of gin.

3. Shake well for 30 seconds.

4. Pour into a tumbler.

5. Top up with ginger ale.

6. Garnish and make it look pretty with some cranberries and a cocktail stick.

7. Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did! Let me know if you give it a go!

Love from,

Today is my day of birth!!! Hollaaaa. 25 today. Wow I’m so excited. I love birthdays, not just mine, everyone’s! I feel like most people prefer Christmas but I’ve always been a birthday girl. I think there is something really special about celebrating each person, individually and having one day where it’s all about them and you get to show them how much you love them. And today it’s my turn!

We don’t have any real plans for today. I have requested pancakes for breakfast and then I’ll probably just hang out with the hubby at home and open my presents (eeeeeek!). My main celebrations are happening this weekend.

Paul is taking me out on Saturday for a surprise. I love surprises and especially his because he can be extremely thoughtful so I can’t wait to find out what we are doing. On Sunday I am celebrating with my extended family at my mums house with a little party. So a whole weekend of celebrations! Can’t wait.

I’m excited about being 25 and getting stuck into my mid twenties. I really feel like I’m ‘there’ now being married and (almost) on track with my career I’m looking forward to seeing what this next chapter holds for me.

How do you celebrate your birthday?

If you are planning a DIY hen party like I did then music is key. Any party is not complete without tunes, and for a hen party, particularly if you’ve got a mixed age group, it’s really important to get a bit of an atmosphere going. I had a hen party of two parts; a party in the park and then a night out, so for the first section I needed a playlist.

I use Spotify Premium to make my party playlists. It’s great, you don’t have to download all the songs and pay for them separately and you can also make them overlap slightly so there are not big pauses in between songs. If you are using a phone to play it though speakers BE AWARE aeroplane mode is needed! You don’t want to interrupt your fave Beyonce track because your lost mate is calling you.

This was my playlist and I must say, for us, it was bang on. I wanted something which was upbeat all the way through but built up to more of a dnacy/clubby vibe towards the end before we went out.  Girly, fun, summery and enough to get people moving which is exactly what I was going for.

I’m still buzzing from my amazing hen party over the weekend! You can read about what we got up to here, but I wanted to write a post about my outfit and makeup for the day, even if it’s only to remind myself in years to come how much effort I put in! The theme of the party was festival/boho which is just so me and I spent a long time searching for the perfect outfit, hairstyle and makeup so I could feel and look my best on the day.

What could be more boho-hippie-festival that the trusty high waisted shorts/crop top/flower crown combo?! I was in love with my outfit and I felt great in it all day.  I wore this with simple flip flops as the weather was so lovely.

Crochet Fringe top: Forever 21

High waisted mint shorts: Primark

White crop top: H&M

Rose Quartz necklace: Forever 21

Flower crown: Bijoux (shop in Portugal)

As it was such a hot day and my party mainly consisted of day time activities I did go for a natural look with a pinky/gold eye shadow and a winged black liner to give it a boho edge. I vamped it up for the evening with a brighter lipstick but this makeup look was great and lasted all day.

Primer: Bare Minerals Prime Time, Original.

Foundation: Bare Minerals Original mineral foundation, Fairly Medium.

I used a bit more than usual and just buffed it within an inch of it’s life to ensure maximum wear.

Bronzer: Bare Minerals, Warmth.

Have finally mastered contouring with this! Tiny, tiny amounts and using the right brush. It took me a while but the perfect brush I’ve found is the Superdrug mini bronzing brush.

Concealer: Bare Minerals Bareskin, Medium.

Powder: Bare Minerals, Mineral Veil.

Highlight/Blush: Laura Mercier compact, Golden Pink.

This is a creamy highlight which I don’t usually use with a mineral foundation but I applied it lightly with a brush on the cheekbones and it looked pretty.

Laura Mercier eye basic, Flax.

MAC, A Natural Flirt.

MAC, Corduroy.

Laura Mercier, Coffee Ground.

Loreal liquid liner

Lancôme Hypnose Mascara

Lipstick: MAC, Angel.

I wanted to get the 70’s crimped look for my hair so I plaited it damp the night before and I ended up with the crazy, hippy hair I wanted! Simple!

I completed my boho look with a few Bohemian Jewellery Tattoos; stunningly detailed gold and silver temporary tattoos which we found at a wedding fair believe it or not! I bought several packets so I could do them with my girls on the day and they went down very well! They look amazing for parties click here to visit their website.
